Valentine Car Review
Safety systems are car features that help drivers to mitigate or avoid collisions. Across all levels, they have become major role players in the overall allotting of efficiency ratings by auto judges to cars before they are being pumped into the auto market in recent times. The need for this should not be over flogged as it is pretty clear that a slight malfunction in a safety gadget or system in a car could result in the loss or near so of human lives- car occupants and other unsuspecting road users inclusive.
To further drive home the importance of safety in cars, different awards are given cars whose features rate the highest while those that do not meet certain safety standards are made not to see the light of day until the malfunction is corrected. Should the car be released before the malfunction is realised, a recall is immediately issued by the appropriate bodies.
Here is a list of the cars that rated the highest where safety features are concerned according to US News evaluation and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2017. To earn this rating, a vehicle must have Superior or Advanced crash avoidance technology, either as standard equipment or as an option.
2017 MAZDA3
Rating 9.7, every model comes with a backup camera, which can help prevent drivers from backing over unseen objects or people. Optional on the Sport model and standard on upper trims are blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, Smart City Brake Support (which can help prevent collisions), and rain-sensing wipers. Optional on the Grand Touring models are adaptive headlamps, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and adaptive cruise control.
2017 HONDA RIDGELINE
Credit its excellent crash test results, secure handling, and, on the top RTL-E and Black Edition trim levels, the standard collision mitigation braking system, road departure mitigation system, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and LaneWatch, which shows your passenger-side blind spot through the infotainment display. It rated 9.7.
2017 TOYOTA CAMRY
Winning the title ‘America’s favorite car’ for the thirteen consecutive year, the 2017 Camry rated 9.3 after falling short of earning the federal government highest 5 star score in the frontal crash and rollover test. It also offers, on its upper trim levels, optional automatic pre-collision braking, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and lane departure warning. Note that the Camry’s collision avoidance system earned an Advanced rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, one step down from the Superior rating earned by most other vehicles in this slideshow. It also received a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
2017 HONDA CR-V
Rating 9.7, the Honda CR-V offers an impressive array of driver assistance safety technology as standard equipment on all but the base model.
The features include lane departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and blind spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert. Also included is a driver attention monitor. The CR-V also received the coveted Top Safety Pick+ rating from the IIHS.
2017 LEXUS RX 350
This beautiful car has proven with its 2017 model that there is more to it than its good looks as it now makes its Safety System standard on all RX 350s, even the RX Hybrid. Included are forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and pedestrian detection. Options include blind spot alert and a multi-angle camera. A review camera is standard on all. It’s rate stands at 9.3.
2017 HONDA ACCORD
The Accord is very popular in Nigeria because of its ruggedness. Added to that now is its 9.6 safety score. The Accord did very well in IIHS testing, earning a Top Safety Pick designation for the coupe and a Top Safety Pick+ designation for the sedan. Honda takes the unusual step of offering a safety enhancement package consisting of forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and lane keep assist.
When next you are considering buying a new ride, look far beyond the beauty or status its accords when making a choice. In the grand scheme of things, your life and safety is more important than everything else.
