Not more than six people including 4 police cadets have been confirmed dead in an accident that involved J5 bus and a Volkswagen Golf on the Kano-Kaduna expressway on Sunday.
The accident, which occurred around Kwanar Likoro close to Tashar Yari was as a result of the ongoing road rehabilitation on Zaria-Kano road, forcing motorists to use one lane, thereby leading to series of accidents, hence, a head-on-collision.
Confirming the incident in Zaria, Kaduna State, the Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Muktar Zubairu, described the incident as unfortunate and pathetic.
He blamed the causes of road accidents to overspeeding, dangerous overtaking, overloading, use of fairly used tyres, phone calls, disregard for traffic rules among others. Mr Zubairu further cautioned motorists against overspeeding and reckless driving to save the lives of innocent Nigerians.
A police representative, Rufa’i Suleiman, reported that the late police officers who were victims in the unfortunate accident were in their 400 level from Police Academy Wudil.
He said the deceased cadets; three males and a female were on their way to Kaduna State from Wudil in Kano State for a break.
