Road Network News #Update
The Ogun state Government has debunked the rumours that has been on social media and all platforms regarding herdsmen killing residents and commuters on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The news which popped up on phones and all media platforms spread like wildfire on wednesday, causing discomfort and restlessness in the hearts of all southwest residents home and abroad as series of calls were being put across by parents to children in the University all around Ogun state and Ibadan to confirm safety.
The News has been regarded as false by the Ogun state police command. The Police spokesperson in the state, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the news was written and disseminated by a group of faceless students with whom their identity is yet to be ascertained.
The faceless group also attached the picture of an incident that happened 8 years ago precisely alongside a simulated voice recording on social media involving groups of people crying and pleading with the alleged attackers not to kill them.
“After series of thorough investigations, we can boldly say that the the alleged attack being posted on social media is an alternative fact”
In view of that, the Police command has vowed to investigate those behind the senseless rumour with the view of bringing them to justice as they can be best described as enemy of the state.
“We hereby enjoin the good and peace loving people of the state to discountenance the rumour and go about their lawful businesses without any fear of harassment or attack from anybody or group”
Oyeyemi said the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway is one of the busiest roads in Nigeria, and the Command was not oblivious of that fact. However, adequate security arrangements have been put in place along that corridor to ensure safe passage for all road users.
We hereby call on all resident and road user to report any form of suspicious movement to the Police Command or other Armed force as swift action will take immediate effect to that. Remember, No one has the right to take any man’s life.
