Comparisons, likes and preference for a perfect Valentine date.

Cars have been man’s best friend, not trying to take over from the dog pet though. Over the years, man has found his thirst for the four wheel so appealing that he longs for a revamp with the evolve of every passing year.

In this post, we have decided to go back in time by bringing back the memories of days past, the arguments as well as the controversies among cars in Nigeria.

For decades, the Honda and  the Toyota Auto company have been on eachother’s tail, rebranding their products to the rational provocation of their rival. With the production of the: “Honda Civic” and the “Toyota Corolla”, both Japanese makers are not resting on their oars and as it is, they do not seem to retire soon.

The Corolla was last redesigned in 2014, but in 2017, it got a refreshing facelift. The Civic was fully redesigned for 2016. The Honda Civic is also available as a coupe. Hatchback versions of both the Civic and the Corolla are newly available for the 2017 model year.

Critics like the interiors in both the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic, they say both cars provide comfortable seating with generous legroom in both rows, and the base models’ cabins are equipped about the same. However, the Civic edges out the Corolla thanks to better rear headroom and the option of heated rear seats.

The name Corolla is a traditional name, derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, the Corolla” is a Latin for “small crown“.  The Corolla, being an exclusive production in Japan to Toyota Store locations is manufactured with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000.

Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. The four-wheel drive versions have also been produced in recent years, being the latest and the most preferred wheel drive for every car.

The civic is an array of cars produced by the Honda Automobile company. Originally, it started out as a subcompact but in the latter years, it went through generational changes; becoming both larger and more upmarket and moving into the compact car segment, giving consumers comfortability and a homely feeling in mobility.

The Honda Civic is widely accepted by all due to its performance and sportiness, it has also  gained integrity for being fuel efficient, reliable and environmental friendly. Despite being a modest car, the Civic is popular as a platform for modification and customization by the enthusiast community gaining facelifts and revamps in each passing year.

Both cars have been on the Nigerian roads for as long as one can remember, an average Nigerian who knows very little about cars would still mention Toyota and Honda. This is own to the fact that the cars are vast in the Nigerian community.

Research has it that Nigerians prefer the Toyota Corolla to the Honda Civic.

  • Some say the Honda civic is a problem car
  • Some call the Honda civic and all Honda products a money wasting machine.
  • Some even detest the Honda Civic because of the suspension failure that plagues all Honda cars
  • Very few number of people approve of the Honda Civic, calling it a strong and rugged car that can perfectly match any condition.
  • Toyota Corolla lovers are quite vast, they call it Money gone right.
  • “The Toyota Corolla is durable, fast and homely. You will enjoy every bit of the car starting from the engine to the body.” A mechanic told us.

From unanimous decisions and choices, our winner for this week is the Toyota Corolla. #Applause…

Till next week when we come your way again but until then, please do remember to “OBEY TRAFFIC RULES, USE YOUR SEAT BELT” and above all, “DON’T DRINK AND DRIVE”.
