In order to reduce road crashes and reduce accident rate in the country. the Ogun-state Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has charged passengers to incessantly caution public transport drivers whenever they notice any form of reckless driving.
Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander, FRSC, gave the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota on Sunday.
Oladele who spoke highly against the aftermath of the accident that claimed 12 lives and left five people severely injured at Fidiwo, on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.
NAN reports that one of the victims died immediately after arriving at the hospital, making the number of deaths rise to 13.
“The accident that led to a head on collision between a Volvo Truck and a Ford Transit Bus could have been averted if the passengers in the bus had initially cautioned the driver,” he said.
He further explained that the bus had been earlier flagged down FRSC patrol team for overspeeding, but the driver, who was adamant ignored the flag-down order, gesturing a hand-abuse to the patrol team.
“Unfortunately, barely driving five minutes from the FRSC Patrol team that cautioned him for speeding, the bus collided with the truck traveling from the opposite direction,”
Mr clement Olabode further advised passengers and commuters not to stop cautioning drivers whenever they notice any form of reckless driving or illegal overtaking abilities as this was one of the many ways to save life and properties.
