The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has announced that with effect from June 1, it will start prosecuting truck and trailer drivers who drive with extra head light in their vehicles as well as tanker drivers carrying tomatoes and firewood on their vehicles.
The FRSC, Corp Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, who instilled the warning while speaking at the National Executive Council meeting of the National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) in Abuja said: The headlight fixed by the manufacturers of the trucks will be acknowledged by the FRSC. fixing extra headlights will be seen as an act of road menace as the headlights often blind other road users coming from the opposite direction.
He also affirmed that the tomatoes ferried by petroleum tankers are dangerous to the health of citizens, “it is an act of greed carrying these tomatoes on the tankers in the first place. They are injurious to the health when consumed and such tomatoes are largely responsible for the growing cases of cholera in the country.” he said
While commending members of the association for complying with use of speed limiters introduced in 2017, Oyeyemi told them they should also impress it on their drivers to avoid carrying firewood on top of their petrol tankers the fume from the fuel adds to the potency of the firewood which makes potentially dangerous.
