The city of Kabul which is the capital of the South Asian Country, Afghanistan has gathered global attention to itself following the unfortunate incident that rocked it on Saturday. A suicide bombing attack was launched at a police checkpoint very close to foreign embassies, killing a host of military officials and civilians. The attack which was carried out with an ambulance with the explanation that it would be easier to pass through police checkpoints without suspicions in such a vehicle has been claimed by the Taliban.
This is the second attack on Kabul by the Taliban militants in the space of one week with the first one killing 22 people at an international hotel in the city and this recent attack killing 95 people while leaving 158 wounded.
President Trump in a statement he made after the attack says “all countries should take decisive action” against the Taliban, which has claimed responsibility for Saturday’s attack. Trump says the “murderous attack” renews the U.S. resolve with its Afghan partners. He says, “The Taliban’s cruelty will not prevail” and the U.S. is “committed to a secure Afghanistan that is free from terrorists.”
It is reported that the victims are receiving medical attention already and hospital ambulances have been spotted going in and out of the city.
