Local Car News #Update

Following the closure of the Jibowu Luxurious Bus Terminal, the Luxury bus owners and about 12 other operators have charged the executive governor of Lagos and the state authorities to court. They are seeking the order of the Lagos high court to stop the state government from restricting their activities on the busy Ikorodu road to Jibowu/Yaba axis.

In September, 2017, the state government had given the order of vacation of area and relocation to ojota and ojodu in compliance with a new transport policy which restricts all inter-state passenger and cargo operations to designated motor parks at various entry points to the mega city. In respect of this, the state Government has Sealed off the terminals, deploying armed men to curb any form of business transaction within the premises.

The transporters are seeking  compensation of N500 Million, to which they claim is the aggregate loss they have suffered since their respective terminals.

The Former special Adviser to the Governor on  Transportation, Prince Olanrewaju Elegushi who spoke from his office in Alausa was of the fact that the operators were occupying structures originally built for residential purposes an were disturbing the flow of vehicular traffic. He also claimed that their vehicles damage the welded wire fences demarcating both sides of the busy road.

But the Luxury bus transporters’ president, Prince Mamah debunked the state Government claims, asserting that before the Luxury bus firms came to the Area Many Years ago, it used to be a den of criminals and miscreants.

Come to think of it, why are we being blamed for traffic hitches? We are intercity transporters and our operations last only between 6.am and 9.pm” He said.
