No fewer than 4 passengers were said to have lost their lives in an accident that happened at the Lekki toll gate yesterday (Sunday) when a Lexus SUV rammed into a commercial bus killing two passengers on the spot and injuring 14 others. Two other passengers reportedly died at the Lagos Island General Hospital, Marina, where they were taken for treatment.
It was gathered that the driver of the Lexus SUV which belonged to Triple D Global Resources Limited, was returning from a nightclub. He was said to be driving against traffic and under the influence of Alcohol. Hard drugs and empty bottles of alcoholic drinks were reportedly found during a search of his vehicle.
He was said to have rammed into an 18-Passenger bus that had just been cleared by ticketers at the lekki toll gate.
General Manager of LASEMA, Mr. Tiamiyu Adeshina said the vehicles were hauled off the road with the aid of the agency’s light tow truck and subsequently handed over to LCC officials, who moved them to Maroko Police Station.
While the driver is still unconscious, Mr Adeshina said the incident will be thoroughly investigated by security operatives while the State Government will take adequate steps to prosecute the culprit.
“It will serve as a deterrent to other motorists, not only about the law but to open their eyes to see the damage that alcohol does to them while driving”
