World Car News #Update
A Central Coast community got a lot of attention in the past weekend as a result of a potentially record breaking solar powered vehicle designed by some of its students. The car was designed by the Prototype Vehicle Laboratory consisting of more than 40 Cal Poly San Luis Obispo students. Nicknamed ‘Dawn’ the design is expected to become the world’s fastest solar powered vehicle.
The ultralight weight vehicle is mostly built with carbon fiber and over 100 square feet of solar panels because it doesn’t have a space for storing batteries. The most interesting fact about it however is that it can function on less than 2 kilowatts of solar power, about the amount needed to power an hair dryer or toaster.
The student/designers are optimistic about the ‘Dawn’ and they hope that it would break the record of the current fastest solar powered vehicle which does 56 miles per hour. The Dawn will do 65 ,miles, one of the students mentioned.
