Three people have been confirmed dead and seven others severely injured in an early morning road accident that occurred along Apapa-Oshodi expressway, Lagos involving a truck and a commercial coaster bus on Wednesday.
The accident was said to have led to a temporary traffic gridlock on the Ilasamaja Bus Stop, inward Oshodi, Apapa-Oshodi Expressway.
Newsmen gathered that the accident was caused by an empty Iveco lorry hitting a giant billboard to which the driver lost control due to the impact of the billboard which subsequently fell on the rear back of the commercial coaster Bus, killing three and injuring seven others.
Confirming the loss of lives and casualties, the General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu, confirmed that the driver of the truck drove into a billboard, but he said what led to the driver driving in such reckless way could not be ascertained.
The driver of the truck upon realizing the havoc he had wreaked; absconded.
“Unfortunately, 7 victims (4 adult female and 3 adult male) with severe injuries have been stabilized by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) officials and have been transferred to Mushin General Hospital for further treatment. The corpses of the 3 Adult males who lost their lives have been handed over to officials of the State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit (SEHMU) to be transferred to the mortuary,” he said.
Tiamiyu further enjoined motorists not to drive above speed limit and also be wary of road signs and billboards to avert the further occurrence of incidents that could lead to the death of road users.
